After "I Do"
Things to do After Getting Married and Co-Locating
2. Have paper mail forwarded to the new address (apply with USPS) 3. Change the mailing address online through personal profiles for: bank accounts, insurance policies, savings funds and for any other important business relationships. Next change the address information for accounts dealing with: leisure, retail, coupons, restaurants, etc. 4. If desired, change the bride's last name though social security (obtain birth certificate for verification purposes, provide a proof of residence, and the marriage license). This would occur if the maiden last name is hyphenated, if the maiden last name is moved to a middle name, or if the maiden last name is dropped all together. 5. If desired, change the bride's last name and address through the DMV (wait for Social Security to process the name change request and bring all of the documentation listed above) 6. Have a vehicle registered in new location if the home is in another jurisdiction. Also, while at the DMV, update the bride's address and change the bride's last name (if desired) on the driver's license (bring all of the documents listed above as well as proof of insurance, title, registration, inspection reports and other required documentation per state)
7. If desired, change the bride's last name on email signatures, voice mails, resumes, social media, etc. 8. Preserve the wedding gown (dry clean at minimum) 9. Divide in-home duties 10. Combine desired banking and savings accounts. Update direct deposits 11. Combine phone plans and delete any duplicate accounts (phone, internet, movie viewing etc.) 12.
